Everyone, please take a moment to read this!
I am fairly new to blogger so I didn’t have the chance to do this before, but now I want to bring to your attention that ExtraLives.org are going to be doing a video game Marathon for charity on July 15th!
ExtraLives.org is a group of gamers that aim to use video games as a means to raise money for various charities. Basically, during a Marathon, which usually goes over the course of 72 hours (or more!), they’ll be playing through various games and broadcasting the whole event live on their Ustream and JustinTV pages. During that time, viewers are welcome to donate via PayPal, using a ChipIn Widget.
To date, and just to name a few things, they’ve worked together with Child’s Play, the World Food Programme, UNICEF, provided money for Free the Children to build four schools in Ecuador, Kenya, Sierra Leone, and Haiti, and provided disaster relief for the victims to the recent earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan.
They’ve even received photos of the schools they’ve funded, thank-you cards from the children there and other things that they all show on their website, so you can be sure that your money is really being used for charity.
The Marathon on July 15th will focus on games they haven’t managed to finish in previous marathons, hence why it was dubbed the Mop-Up Marathon for the site’s 2nd Anniversary. The Charity they’re supporting this time, again, is Free the Children to build a beautiful 5th school house! Here you have a list of games that will be played:
Super Mario Bros. 2
Hotel Mario
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Superman 64
Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Zelda: Majora’s Mask race
Shadow the Hedgehog
Hey You Pikachu!
Pokemon Adventure
Vietnamese Crystal
Faces of Evil and/or Wand of Gamelon
Zelda: The Wind Waker
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing
E.T. (The Atari 2600 masterpiece)
Shaq-Fu
For more infortmation, you can check out their website and read through the FAQ!
Now here I’d like to ask you lovely people a favor. Anything you do is appreciated, whether it is donating, watching the Marathon or even just spreading the word! So I want to ask you, whether you plan to watch or donate or not, please reblog this and help us get the word out! It’s fun, geeky and for Charity and helps a bunch of people, so let’s show everyone the power of blogger and get this shown as much as we can! =)
